  The Asian Seismological Commission (ASC), established in 1996, is an important international event held every two years that brings together leading scientists and specialists in the field of seismology. In recent years, ASC has made a significant contribution to earthquake science through the development of broad international cooperation, scientific achievements, and capacity building across the Asian region.

  From April 25 to 30, 2026, the 16th General Assembly of the Asian Seismological Commission (16GA-ASC) was held in the hospitable capital of Uzbekistan, Tashkent. The event was dedicated to the 30th anniversary of ASC and to the 60th anniversary of the tragic and devastating 1966 Tashkent earthquake.

  The delegation from Kyrgyzstan was the fifth largest at the Assembly. Two researchers from the Research Station of the Russian Academy of Sciences actively participated in the work of the 16GA-ASC.

  Head of the Laboratory of Complex Studies, Sanjar A. Imashev, participated in the thematic session “06. Machine Learning and Big Data in Seismology” and presented:

1)on April 27, 2026, a poster presentation entitled “Discrimination of Earthquakes and Explosions Using Single-Station Seismic Features and Random Forest Classification”;

2)on April 28, 2026, an oral presentation entitled “RSNet: A Neural Network for Seismic Phase Picking Based on Mesofluctuation Analysis.”

  Based on discussions and feedback from participants of the 16GA-ASC, it can be concluded that the research presented by the delegation of the Research Station of the Russian Academy of Sciences is currently at a high scientific level.
  On behalf of all participants, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to the organizers of the 16th General Assembly of the Asian Seismological Commission, and especially to the staff of the Institute of Seismology of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan for their warm hospitality and the tremendous amount of work carried out to ensure the successful organization of such a large and complex scientific forum. Face-to-face communication among researchers enables a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of one another, while also providing valuable opportunities to discuss and better understand the essence of scientific problems.
