Geomagnetic Observations

For the purpose of studying the relations of variations of the Earth’s magnetic field with deformation processes in the Earth’s crust and variations of other geophysical fields, geomagnetic observations are presently carried out at the network similar to the one used for observations by far-field transient EM sounding method (TEM): at the same stationary stations and at the Karagai-Bulak station located on the northern shore of the Issyk-Kul lake as well as 9 field observation sites at a small distance from

TEM sites (first tens meters).

During geomagnetic observations, the full vector of magnetic field T is registered by a modern geomagnetic-variation modular system “MB-07” developed by RS RAS and acting on the principle of nuclear resonance.

Magnetic field measurements are made in two versions. At the stationary stations, observations are carried out round-the-clock in automatic mode with discreteness of 20 seconds.

Field observation sites are visited once a week. The duration of the observation session is 15 minutes, with 5 seconds of discreteness.

Based on the observed data, the ΔТ differences of geomagnetic field measured at different stations are calculated. In order to reduce the amount of work, the differences are calculated only with one station (the base), which is the AK-Suu station.

Geomagnetic observations carried out by the laboratory using high precision geomagnetic variation stations make it possible to receive additional high quality information about changes of geomagnetic field which can be used for analysis of spatial-temporal features of deformation processes occurring within the proving ground and its surroundings as well as for interpretation of data by other geophysical methods.
