November is a time for active closure and presentation of annual reports by the terms of research works accomplished by Research Station RAS

In 2016 the Research Station of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Bishkek city carries out basic scientific research on four subjects:

Subject 70.1 "Study of Tien-Shan deep structure and surrounding areas by a complex of geophysical methods for clarification of interrelation of substance-energy transfer in the Earth’s crust and the upper mantle with time-space distribution of seismicity".

Subject 70.2 "Study of modern Earth’s crust movements of Central Asia using the space geodesy assets".

Subject 78.1 "Study of geodynamic, seismic and geophysical processes as the basis for earthquakes forecast (including modeling of inelastic processes in the seismogenerating zones)".

Subject 80.1 "Development of hardware – software and bases of technologies of electromagnetic monitoring of geodynamic processes in seismoactive zones and estimates their hazards".

At the next meeting of RS RAS Academic council the reports on the main results of the researches conducted within State task accomplishment in 2016 will be considered and affirm.

News of the Laboratory of Deep Magnetotelluric Studies (LDMS)

In October and November,2016, the LDMS staff fulfilled the field works by the method of magnetotelluric soundings on the Kentor site (on 34 points of Central and East profiles) and in surroundings of Noorus settlement. The registration of MT-field was performed with the help of Phoenix MTU-5 and MTU-5A measuring complexes. Field works were conducted at a height of 2000 m above sea level. Time of field recording was 14 – 18 hours. The MT data in a range from 0,001 to 3000 sek. were obtained. The works were complicated by poor weather conditions (thunder storms, rains, snow and low temperature).newsLGMi

In the third decade of October the works on Ukok profile in the surroundings of Kochkor village were conducted. MT soundings were carried out on 7 points of observation: six points were in the center of profile with 150 – 200 m step, and the sevenths points is stationary and time of field recording was 68 hours.
